Here are five soul-warming tea recipes that also offer many health benefits and can be made in the comfort of your own home – best enjoyed with a smile!

1. Butterfly Pea Flower Tea

Yet to be widely-recognised, butterfly pea flower tea is not only beautiful to look at, with its brilliant colour-changing effects – it also has some great health benefits. The Southeast Asian flower, which first became known in Thailand as an effective remedy for hair growth, makes for a mesmerising tea – making a cup of butterfly pea flower tea is an experience in itself!

Ingredients:

  • five teaspoons of dried butterfly pea flowers
  • boiling water

Directions:

Add the dried butterfly pea flowers to a (preferably clear) cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes and watch as the exciting colours change from dark shades of blue to deep violet.

Relatively rare to come by but exceptionally good in taste, olive leaf tea is known to contain up to 40 times more antioxidants than even the likes of green tea. Olive leaf tea is mellow and delicate in taste, and doesn’t contain the slightly bitter flavour found in green tea. I was hooked from first try, and I’m sure you will be too!

  • 1 pan of boiling water

Steep the dried olive leaves in a pan of boiling water. Allow to brew for at least six minutes to release the flavours, and serve hot or chilled, straining as you pour.

Chamomile tea has a long history for its use as a gentle sleep aid. The mental calming properties found in this pretty flower, make it a great tea for relaxing the mind and creating a moment of inner peace. While, from a health point of view, it offers many useful benefits.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of dried chamomile flowers
  • boiling water

Directions:

Place the boiling water in a teapot, add the dried chamomile flowers and leave to steep for five minutes. Strain the tea as you pour, and serve just before bed for aid with sleep.

Another beautiful-looking, soul-warming drink, hibiscus tea is deep red in colour and sour in flavour, with tastes similar to cranberry. Hibiscus tea offers many impressive health benefits and also improves current conditions, such as high blood pressure.

Directions:

While it’s known for its nutritional benefits, ginger, honey and lemon tea isn’t just for the flu season. Possessing multiple health and wellness factors, some of which are listed below, this heartwarming tea is a perfect companion for when you need to be uplifted – call it a cuddle in a cup!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon

Directions:

Add the grated ginger to the pan of boiling water, allowing it to infuse for several minutes. Transfer the honey and lemon to the pan, mix the ingredients together and serve hot or cold – revitalising effects remain the same either way.
